Best practice
Wednesday, 7th of March
On Wednesday, we went to visit the Lifestyle Academy at
Newcastle College - an impressive training facility which caters for beauty, sport, tourism and hospitality students right in the heart of Newcastle city centre.
The Lifestyle Academy has been well received locally since opening in September 2006, and boasts a spa, gym, restaurant as well as hair and beauty salons - open to both public and students. As well as a healthy eating Bistro staffed by students ,for students, the building also features a dedicated aviation and a cabin crew training room and a purpose built biomechanics centre for the study of sports science.
For Walker, the Academy is an interesting and inspiring example of a dynamic learning environment where students interface with members of the public and where learning happens alongside commercial business activities. As an example of 'Best Practice', we gathered information and photographs to show at a Senior Leadership meeting at Walker in order to challenge people's thinking about the subject and to stimulate further debate.
